It would be a far better system if the nozzle/sprayer head had smaller emitter holes that offered a finer spray of water and benefiting from more conservative use of the water. The problem with this is that it is not conservative of water. The next thing I don't like about the shower is that the shower head or sprayer nozzle is I believe repurposed from use as a kitchen sink type nozzle instead of a purposefully designed emitter. It's not a deal breaker really but if you're using it to shower it's nice to be able to be hands free (it would be possible to use a rubber band to hold the lever down or something however and because of the next thing this is kinda moot). Of three portable air pressurized showers I purchased and tested this was probably the best materials and I liked the design with the exception of two things (one of the things were the same on all brands and models tested) these things were that the Nemo shower didn't have an option to have water flow without holding the nozzle lever down. It is small, easy to move around, doesn't tip over, and provides good pressure. If you have small hands to get in there with a towel or don't really need it to be bone dry the moment you pack up, this could be a very good shower. I'm sure given enough time in the air, it would eventually dry out, but generally I am going to pack this down into a bunch of gear where it will not be touched again for weeks. The plug is also too small for my big hands to get in with a towel to dry it out. You have to keep moving it around while looking inside to see if pooled water is draining. Because of its horizontal form-factor, there is no good spot on the bottom of the unit to drain. I tried over multiple days to dry it out and still had some water drops or steam in it (leaving it in the sun to dry). Only needing the unit for a few trips over the season, I need it to fully dry out. The difficulty in drying it out ultimately killed it for me. But still managed to sadly hold the bag and fiddle with it and all sorts of stuff trying to get the water to come up the house with the dynamics of it having to work in the first place to make one of these work correctly I'm seeing.īesides those things, these two are great. the last few days since I got it on Friday and Saturday, it was Saturday and Sunday (hence Friday the bath lol), i learned how to shower in the 2 gallon Nemo Helio Pressure Shower (Dark Verglas) by filling it as full as I could, which was difficult because it wouldn't stand straight up to continue filling full as needed for the full shower routine.īut when I just about had it full under possibly a cup or 2 less, I found myself having to hold the Nemo Helio Pressure Shower (Dark Verglas) up and tried to hang it on the top hook in the shower, but realized why it says not to do so by the handle so I stopped immediately as I could see how the water weight would be bad on the bag itself. I finally got in a full shower today after warming the water and trying to pour the boiling water into the small top opening, then allowing a complete shampooing of both facial treatments, and then finally bathing and rinsing. I think the back window for the pump and hose will be eventually closed by some heavy-duty industrial velcro to keep unwanted pests bugs out in the long run. but, the Nemo Helio Pressure Shower (Dark Verglas) is difficult I'm starting to notice to get a good spray out of it, I think it has to do with the shower hose where its located, causing a blockage or possibly pressure at its bottom to press the water out its long hose. I'm kinda disappointed that the Nemo Helio Pressure Shower (Dark Verglas) didn't use the small back pocket door window that I can tell was meant for probably the footpad and hose. Litteral, I was just splish-splashing away so I am actually glad in this case I had fun on the first day! Haha, I did just take a bath in it the first night I had it because I hadn't gotten the Nemo Helio Pressure Shower (Dark Verglas) (which I just realized I also bought from my new favorite place to shop backcountry on amazon :) ), so I had to use my new water heating stick to heat a 5-gallon bucket of water. I'm noticing that it doesn't drain well, so I'm hoping I won't have to always look forward to digging some sort of highrise mount so that water can drain off out of its sides. It leaks in the Oregon rain right now, so I have it under my new 10x10 canopy entrapped within its walls. Like, I know that it makes no sense to just drop an album online unless you’re Beyonce. In 1995, I would have gone toe to toe with anybody about what it takes to be in a band. I was in a band called Toy Boat, which is a remnant of the O Positive guys, and we released a record before Napster, iTunes, at the dawn of the internet. So Beth and I agreed to take a kindergartner approach in the studio, and the songs were going to be “Postcards from Kindergarten.” How long has it been since you’ve released music? How does this recording and release process compare to your past albums? No kindergarten kid ever goes back and fixes their finger painting. You could give a kindergarten kid any prompt on the planet, and they’ll just do it. That’s because I see songs like writing postcards: if you read a postcard, it doesn’t need to be “War and Peace.” In fact, if you think you’re going to create some epic work, you can give yourself quality paralysis.īut kindergartners can do anything. We had this agreement that the sessions were going to be just like hi-tech kindergarten-we’re just going to get together and have fun and see what we can do. In 2021, when people began getting vaccines and you could go out again, I visited my cousin Beth Burnett, who is also a producer, and she said I could come down to her home studio in Rhode Island to record some songs. I wrote about 60 songs during that period, not thinking I was going to do anything with them. I would just put on the voice memo app on my phone and grab my guitar and sing something, work on it, and then send an mp3 to my musician pals. Suddenly all the water around my boat was very calm. When COVID hit, I was stuck at home, I was always at point A. It might be there in the background, but then you get distracted-you have a class or work-and the fish is gone. I have this metaphor that a song idea is like a fish swimming around in this fishbowl in your skull. How did this EP come about?īefore the pandemic, I spent so much time traveling from point A to point B, from my house to school, so I never had time to write songs. recently caught up with Herlihy to talk about the new EP, his memories of O Positive and the Boston music scene, and the state of the music industry. Along with the release of the EP’s first single, “ The Invisible Girl,” Herlihy performed at The Burren in Somerville on Sept. 1,” an EP of tracks written and recorded during the pandemic. Now, roughly two decades since his last release, Herlihy is back with “Postcards From Kindergarten Vol. Photo by Matthew Modoono/Northeastern University Photos by Matthew Modoono/Northeastern Universityīack in the day, the music video for “ Imagine That” was constantly playing in the Green Line Records office. David Herlihy, an instructor in the music department at Northeastern University. More to the point, Herlihy is an embodiment of being great and getting paid in the music business: Before becoming a Northeastern instructor and entertainment lawyer, he was the frontman of O Positive, a mainstay of the Boston ’80s alt-rock scene. Students past or present in Northeastern’s music industry concentration are likely familiar with this mantra: “Be great, get paid.” That phrase is often said by program coordinator Dave Herlihy as a reminder that no matter what you do in the business-be an artist, work at a label, dive into ethnomusicology, and so on-you can make a living from your love for music with the right skills. War, yes a timeless song by someone whom I didn’t realise until recently, spent most of their adult life living in rural Nottinghamshire. Like you, it did go away of its own accord, but all very strange. As for the winking eye – My hairdresser had that recently which was very awkward for her. Still not used my expensive mascara on that eye yet that as want to make sure it doesn’t get contaminated! It went away on its own but whilst it was happening I was very self-conscious about who I spoke to and what I was saying… could have led to all sorts of misunderstandings down the Co-op when asking the nice young male cashier if he had any ripe bananas…(etc etc etc…)Įdwin Starr – fab. It wasn’t like I’ve had before, that quick fluttery type you feel in your eyelid from time to time, that no-one else could see, no this one was a full-on, very slow, uncontrollable and complete wink. Whilst nowhere near as painful or unpleasant, a few months back I had an inexplicable twitch in my right eye. I totally relate to the make-up dilemma, wearing it on only one eye! I will leave you with a video clip of Bruce, who after an impassioned talky intro (starts at 0:50), looks very much as if he might burst a blood vessel performing the song. Again, powerful stuff, and this time a protest against the Reagan Administration’s foreign policy in Central America. Bruce and the E Street Band came up with a rock arrangement that worked well for them, and once released as a single in 1986, it got to No. It was initially suggested as something to make the concluding shows of the Born In The USA tour a little bit different and special. I am usually late to the party but it seems Bruce Springsteen started performing War in concert in 1985. War appeared on both Starr’s “War & Peace” album, and its follow-up.Īnd here is where I have made a new discovery. It was an anthem for the anti-war movement, and it continues to appear on movie soundtracks and hip hop music samples today. Edwin Starr’s intense vocals transformed this Temptations’ album track into a totally different animal, and it spent three weeks at the top of the Billboard chart. This might seem obvious, but the concept of the centroid is very important to understand both graphically and numerically. This means that if it were required to balance the area (or body or section) in a horizontal position by placing a nail underneath it, the point of the nail would best be placed directly below the point where the lines of symmetry meet. Thus, the centroid is at the point where the lines intersect. If a body (or area or section) has two (or more) lines of symmetry, the centroid must lie somewhere along each of the lines. This means that if it were required to balance the area (or body or section) in a horizontal position by placing a pencil or edge underneath it, the pencil would be best laid directly under the line of symmetry. If the area (or section or body) has one line of symmetry, the centroid will lie somewhere along the line of symmetry. Symmetry can be very useful to help determine the location of the centroid of an area. It is often useful for the centroid of the area to be determined in either case. The planar surface (or figure) may represent an actual area (like a tributary floor area or the cross-section of a beam) or a figurative diagram (like a load or a bending moment diagram). The centroid of a two dimensional surface (such as the cross-section of a structural shape) is a point that corresponds to the center of gravity of a very thin homogeneous plate of the same area and shape. The Beams Shown are a Wood and Steel Beams We will limit our application of the Moment of Inertia as it applies to Structural Components identified here. The farther out the object's mass is, the more rotational inertia the object has, and the more force is required to change its rotation rate. Therefore, it encompasses not just how much mass the object has overall, but how far each bit of mass is from the axis. The moment of inertia of an object about a given axis describes how difficult it is to change its angular motion about that axis. The symbol I and sometimes J are usually used to refer to the moment of inertia or polar moment of inertia. The moment of inertia plays much the same role in rotational dynamics as mass does in linear dynamics, describing the relationship between angular momentum and angular velocity, torque and angular acceleration, and several other quantities. It is the inertia of a rotating body with respect to its rotation. In classical mechanics, moment of inertia, also called mass moment of inertia, rotational inertia, polar moment of inertia of mass, or the angular mass, (SI units kg m 2) is a measure of an object's resistance to changes to its rotation. The various run-time libraries implement conventional language or application-to-operating system interfaces such as Pascal I/O and C stdio. For instance, the V file server implements a UNIX-like file system using the raw disk access supported by the kernel. The service modules implement value-added services using the basic access to hardware resources provided by the kernel. The existence of multiple machines and network interconnection is largely transparent at the process level. The kernel is distributed in that a separate copy of the kernel executes on each participating network node yet the separate copies cooperate to provide a single system abstraction of processes in address spaces communicating using a base set of communication primitives. The system is structured as a relatively small “distributed” kernel, a set of service modules, various run-time libraries and a set of commands, as shown in Figure 1. The V distributed system is an operating system designed for a cluster of computer workstations connected by a high-performance network. This work include the VMP (ISCA’86 and 88) and more recently the ParaDiGM multiprocessor (IEEE Computer Feb.’91 – also available on ). The work on V also led to computer architecture work on multiprocessor memory systems that are well-structured for operating systems. That work led to network protocol design including IP multicast ( RFC 1112), VMTP ( RFC 1045), Sirpent (SIGCOMM’89), and network interfacing VMP NAB (SIGCOMM’88). The original DSG work focused on the V distributed system, which was developed in the 1981 to 1988 time frame (see CACM, March 1988 for an overview article). The V distributed System was developed at Stanford University as part of a research project to explore issues in distributed systems. , macOS Catalina (x86_64), Windows 10 and TensorFlow devel Docker image The following instructions have been tested on Ubuntu 16.04.V (or V-System) – a microkernel distributed operating system developed by faculty and students in the Distributed Systems Group (DSG) at Stanford University from 1981 to 1988, led by Professors David Cheriton and Keith A.
